GREELEY, Colo. – Lexi Tuite's goal in the 89th minute pulled Northern Colorado even at 1-1, earning a draw with Idaho State at Jackson Stadium Friday.
Off a free kick near midfield, the ball bounced off multiple players before Lauren Woodhull made enough contact to push in the direction of Tuite. After settling the ball inside the six-yard box on the near side of the field, Tuite blasted a shot off her right boot past the keeper and into the top-left corner of the goal.
Maddie Smith stopped all three shots on goal from the Bengals in the second half but the Bears trailed for 35 minutes after Idaho State struck first on a set piece in the 54th minute. Jordyn Roth set up a set piece from the right side of UNC's goal and fired a low towards the far post. Neither team touched the ball and it rolled in the open side of the net.
The Bear's aggressive style in the first half stymied Idaho State, which attempted two shots, with both being wide of the frame. Northern Colorado mustered five attempts, with all three on net turned away, sending the teams to the locker room scoreless.
FROM THE HEAD COACH
"I like the way our team continued to fight," UNC Head Coach, Tim Barrera said. "I figured if we could keep them from scoring on a set piece, we would get one ourselves. It is disappointing we gave up the one [goal] but we did not give up and we were able to earn a point."
