Gage Messingham Collects Big Sky Conference Weekly Player of the Week Honor

GREELEY, Colo. -- Gage Messingham earned his first Big Sky Conference Men's Golfer of the Week accolade, the league office announced Wednesday.

"Very happy for Gage to receive this honor," University of Northern Colorado head coach Clayton Sikorski said. "He's really developed over the summer, and I am thrilled he's seeing some positive results. Excited to see his hard work continue to pay off the rest of the year."

Messingham's performance at the Wildcat Invitational – hosted by Kansas State – which was played at Colbert Hills Golf Course (par 72/7,525 yards), earned him the honor.

The sophomore from Arvada, Colorado, shot a 1-over par 217, highlighted by a 2-under par 70 in the final round Monday. He eagled the par-five 16, following birds on the two previous holes. Messingham birdied the par-five seventh as well.

Messingham opened the event with a 74 during Sunday's morning session, before shooting a 73 in the afternoon. He collected his first top-20 finish of the campaign, placing 19th. Messingham and the rest of the Bears return to the course Oct. 2-3 at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational – hosted by the Buffaloes on the Colorado National Golf Course in Erie, Colorado.
