Men's Golf Headed to California for NCAA Regionals

GREELEY, Colo. -- The Northern Colorado men's golf team has been placed in the California regional for the upcoming 2023 NCAA Men's Golf Championship Regionals, May 15-17. The tournament will be played at The Institute Golf Club in Morgan Hill, Calif.
UNC earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning its third Big Sky Conference title on April 26.Â
The UNC men's golf team won its third Big Sky Conference championship this past week, earning an automatic berth to the NCAA regionals. Previous titles include back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2019. This is the first Big Sky title for the Bears under Clayton.

The Bears recorded a team score of 845 (+5) at the 2023 Big Sky Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., last week, beating out second-place Sacramento State by seven strokes.

Graduate student and Lakewood native, Jack Castiglia led the Bears and finished second overall with a three-day score of 208 (-2). Jack posted a season-best 66 on the final day of the championship to help secure the title. He currently holds a 71.77 stroke average this season as the Bears head into the NCAA's.

At the tournament, the Bears placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th individual and had all five golfers finish in the top half of all competitors.

Freshman Yuze Zhang turned in a second-straight par for the Bears, as he finished the tournament with a 211 (+1) and in sole possession of third place overall.

Mead, Colo., native TJ Shehee hit a 72 in the final round and finished tied for fourth overall with a 213 (+3).

For their efforts, Castiglia, Zhang and Shehee were named to the Big Sky 2023 Men's Golf All-Tournament Team.
