GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado head women's basketball coach Kristen Mattio is pleased to announce the additions of Jerad Stottlemyre and Katie Mayes to the Bear's staff.
Stottlemyre joins the program as an assistant coach and Mayes is the director of player development and operations.
"We are very pleased to have Jerad and Katie join our women's basketball staff," Mattio said. "Their knowledge of the game combined with their ability to develop players and build strong relationships will be a major asset in elevating our program."
Stottlemyre joins UNC after coaching four seasons at Saint Martin's University, and most recently as an associate head coach. He helped SMU to its first top-25 ranking in school history during the 2021-2022 season. Stottlemyre spent the 2018-19 season at the University of Washington. At UW, Stottlemyre assisted in travel, scouting reports, tracking in-game statistics, post-game analysis, gathering practice statistics, and assisting the coaching staff in practice drills.
Before UW, he spent over three years developing youth basketball players as a coach and private trainer for ScoutsFocus, Eastside Basketball Club, Breakthrough Basketball, and Newport Select Basketball.
"We are thrilled to have Jerad and his entire family join our Bear family! Jerad brings strong recruiting ties from the Pacific Northwest. His work ethic is unwavering, and his passion for basketball analytics and teaching the game is impressive," Mattio said. "His overall experience from coaching at Washington and most recently Saint Martins along with his servant leadership approach to serving our program is a perfect fit! I am beyond excited to welcome Jerad, his wife Kristine, and their most recent addition to the family...baby girl Blake to Greeley."
Mayes, a Colorado native, returns to the Centennial State after coaching for Big Sky-foe Montana State. Mayes joined the Bobcat program in 2021 and joined Tricia Binford's staff as an assistant coach. Mayes had a great first season back with the Bobcats, as Montana State earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2022 Big Sky Women's Basketball Championship in Boise
With the Bobcats, the Alamosa, Colorado, product was the director of on-court player development, and an assistant offensive coordinator, oversaw international recruiting, and directed the Bobcat Hoop Camps. Mayes also played at MSU from 2008-2012 and was a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American her senior season.
The bulk of Mayes' professional playing career spanned six seasons, beginning with ProBuild Lions, Landsmeer, Netherlands, in Sept. 2012. She helped the squad to the Dutch National Championship and a Dutch Cup title, competing in the highest league in the country.
From 2013-2017, she played for Lulea Basket where she guided the club to four consecutive Swedish National Championships in the SBBF- Sweden's top league. In addition, Lulea Basket competed in the FIBA EuroCup in 2015 and 2016, advancing to the second round in 2015.
"Katie is no stranger to Colorado as she was raised in this great state! Her strengths and passion in the player development area are going to pay dividends for our program. Katie is familiar with the Big Sky Conference as she had a very successful career at Montana State and is one of the best to ever put on an MSU jersey," Mattio said. "Her nine years of professional playing experience studying the international game will really be a critical component in helping provide a path for the players in our program that aspire to play at the pro level after college. We are excited to welcome Katie and her husband Chris to UNC!"
