GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado head women's basketball coach Kristen Mattio has announced the signing of Colorado native Ashley Panem.
"We are extremely excited to have Ashley and her family join our Bear family," Mattio said. "Ashley is no stranger to Bear basketball as she grew up about an hour from Greeley and attended basketball camps at the Bank of Colorado Arena when she was younger."
Mattio is impressed with Panem's high basketball IQ and consistent effort.
"Ashley is an intelligent player, has great court vision, and can score the ball at multiple levels," Mattio said. "With her strong work ethic and overall consistency, she will also impact the defensive end of the floor. We are excited for her to come home and make an immediate impact on our program. Bear Country is going to love this homegrown player!"
Panem, a Broomfield, Colorado native, comes to UNC from Radford. This past season, Panem appeared in 28 games and played a pivotal role in the Highlanders rotation. She scored in double digits on four occasions, including a season-high 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting on January 25 at Longwood.
Before playing at the collegiate level, averaged double-digit point totals in her sophomore, junior and senior years at Fairview High School. Junior year in high school she was named BocoPreps Player of the Year.
Panem is the daughter of James Panem and Emily Am.
