UNC Defeats Portland State in Big Sky Tournament Thriller

BOISE, Idaho – Behind four student-athletes to score in double-digits, Northern Colorado bested Portland State 84-80 to advance to the Big Sky tournament quarterfinals.
Senior and Aurora, Colorado native Matt Johnson II dropped a team-high 22 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field. Johnson II was a dangerous 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and finished 5-for-6 at the charity stripe.
Fellow senior and Thornton, Colorado product Dalton Knecht scored 19 points on 7-for-18 shooting from the field, while senior and Denver, Colorado native Daylen Kountz scored 18 points and went 10-for-11 at the free-throw line.
Freshman and Thornton, Colorado native Brock Wisne added 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to finish with the double-double.
Games are won at the free-throw line and in front the basket and the Bears excelled in both areas.
The Bears did their damage at the free-throw line and finished 25-for-31 and outrebounded the Vikings 40-33. UNC also recorded six blocks.
UNC returns to action Sunday and plays Montana State at 8 p.m.
