UNC Rolls Past SDSU and Clinches Series Finale

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Northern Colorado tallied 14 hits en route to a 9-6 win over South Dakota State in the series finale played from Falcon Field on the campus of the Air Force Academy.
The Bears (4-16, 2-1 Summit) broke the game open in the third inning.
With the bases loaded Jackson Meier grounded out to the second baseman to score Austin Bunn and break the 3-3 tie. Carson Gross then singled up the middle to score two more runs and the Bears led 6-3.
Jake King and Caden Wagner added RBI singles in the sixth inning.
Gross finished 4-for-4 with two RBI, while King batted 2-for-4 with three RBI and drew one walk.
Heinze and Bunn each collected a hit, while King, Wagner, and Meier added doubles.
Jake Storey entered in relief and was credited with the win. Storey tossed three innings and scattered four hits, allowed three runs, and four walks and fanned two batters.
Murphy Gienger earned the three-inning save. Gienger quieted the SDSU (5-14, 1-2 Summit) bats and allowed no runs and just one hit to go with three strikeouts.
The Bears play a non-conference game Tuesday at Colorado-Colorado Springs and travel to Omaha for its second Summit League series of the season, which is set to begin Friday at 4:30 p.m. MTN.
