Cross Starts Strong for Bears in Heptathlon

MOSCOW, IDAHO -- Starting off the first day of competition at the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships, Steven Cross was the lone competitor for Northern Colorado as he completed four events of the heptathlon on Thursday.
Cross started the day with a fantastic second-place finish in the 60-meter with a time of 7.20 seconds, just one one-thousandth behind first. He then finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.46m. Cross then finished out the day with a throw of 10.42m in the shot put and clearing 1.76m in the high jump. He sits in sixth place after the first day of the heptathlon, and finishes with the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m on Friday.
The remaining members of the UNC track and field team begin competition tomorrow at the Big Sky championships. The heptathlon's 60m begins at 11 a.m. (MT), while track events commence at 4 p.m. with the men's 60m hurdles. Field events begin at 4:05 p.m. with the women's long jump.
