Jumpers Excel in Final Meet of Regular Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Northern Colorado track and field teams finished their final indoor meet prior to the upcoming Big Sky Championships, competing at the Air Force Collegiate Open on Friday.

UNC's women's jumpers shined at the event. Newcomer Julinne Strydom took first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.37m, and claimed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.46m. Kiana Van Haaren claimed second in the long jump with a mark of 5.55m, narrowly missing first place by 1cm.

Alexa Oatman claimed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 3.35m.

On the men's side, Jaylen Lee claimed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.67m.

UNC heads to the 2023 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships next week. The championships are being hosted by the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. The first day of competition begins on Thursday, Feb. 23 and concludes on Saturday, Feb. 25. All three days of the meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
