Boon Named Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Week

GREELEY, Colo. – Michaela Boon earned Big Sky Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week after her performances against Idaho State and Weber State, league staff announced Monday.
Boon collected the third weekly honor of her career and first this season after anchoring the back line and helping the Bears to a pair of wins and securing the No. 2 seed in this week's Big Sky Championship,
The Cortland, Neb., native averaged an impressive 6.1 digs per set, tallying 43 digs, with five assists and two service aces over the two matches. She tied her season-high with 29 digs in the win over Weber State in the regular-season finale.
This is the third consecutive Big Sky Conference Player of the Week Award, with Makenzie Harris claiming the first honor, before Syd Cole earned the accolade last week. Boon picked up the team's lone defensive award this season.
Boon and the Bears open the Big Sky Conference Volleyball Championship against seventh-seeded Eastern Washington at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The first of four quarterfinal matches features No. 4 Weber State and No. 5 Portland State at 10 a.m. Sacramento State – the regular-season champion and No. 1 seed takes on No. 8 Idaho State at 1 p.m.
In the night session, No. 3 Montana State and No. 6 meet for the third time this season, before the Bears and Eagles wrap up day one.
The winners of the first two matches meet Thanksgiving Day at 4 p.m., while the second semifinal follows at 7 p.m., with the championship match at 7 p.m. Friday.
