Bears Open Regular Season in Basketball Doubleheader November 6th

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado rolled past Colorado Christian 76-45 Wednesday evening in an exhibition game at Bank of Colorado Arena.

The Bears broke the game open in the second quarter when they outscored the Cougars 19-8 and went into halftime with a commanding 29-14 lead.

UNC shot 41.7 percent (5-for-12) in the second stanza and went a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe.

The Blue & Gold continued its proficient offense in the third quarter and shot 60 percent (9-for-15) from the floor and went 9-for-12 at the free-throw line.

For the game, UNC shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53).

Inside the Box Score

Hannah Simental, who was named to the Preseason Big Sky Conference Team, dropped 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field. The Pueblo native also finished 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Delaynie Byrne showcased her versatility with a mixture of points in front of the basket and from three-point range. The Arvada product tallied 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field. Byrne went a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line and collected three rebounds.
Gabi Fields came off the bench and scored a game-high 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the floor. Fields handed out a game-high four assists while also totaling a game-high three steals.
The Bears forced the Cougars into 21 turnovers, which UNC turned into 26 points.
UNC showcased its depth and the bench contributed 32 points.
The Bears dominated in front of the basket with 38 rebounds while collecting 28 points in the paint.

The Bears return to the hardwood Monday when they host Hastings at 5:30 p.m. in game one of a basketball doubleheader with UNC men's basketball hosting Colorado College 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
