Northern Colorado Falls Short at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Northern Colorado fell in a hotly-contested match-up at Cal Poly, 24-17 Saturday evening in Big Sky Conference action.
The Bears started the game with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Jacob Sirmon finding Zain Zinicola with a two-yard touchdown pass.
Cal Poly countered with a touchdown at the end of the first quarter to knot it at 7-7.
To start the second quarter, Hunter Green converted a 27-yard field goal to put the Bears ahead 10-7.
The Mustangs added a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter and went into the break with a 17-10 lead.
At 8:03 in the third quarter Sirmon connected with Jamarii Robinson on a skinny post and scored from 16 yards out to tie it at 17-17.
Cal Poly scored the go-ahead touchdown at 13:53 in the fourth quarter.
Game Notes
-Tizell Lewis and Jacob Stanton each recorded an interception.
-Jordan Knapke finished with a game-high 12 tackles, including 11 solo stops.
-As a team, UNC generated 260 yards of total offense – 154 through the air and 106 on the ground.
-David Afari added 52 yards rushing on 13 attempts and averaged 4.0 yards per attempt.
-Robinson accounted for 120 yards of total offense – 44 receiving yards and 76 kick return yards.
