Northern Colorado Closes Fall with a Fury

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – In a loaded field, the Northern Colorado men's golf team posted the seventh-lowest 18-hole total in school history Tuesday in the final round of the Everett Buick GMC Classic – hosted by Arkansas Little Rock - on the Chenal Country Club (par 72/7,115 yards).
The Bears recorded a 9-under-par 279, with Gage Messingham carding a 4-under 68. On a day when four of the five members finished in red numbers, the Arvada, Colorado, native carded six of the team's 21 birdies.
After shooting 10-over through Monday's 36 holes, he advanced 15 spots, placing 56th, with a 78+76+68=222. Messingham recorded one of two eagles by Northern Colorado, inking a three on the first hole – a 544-yard par 5 - in Monday's morning session.
Peter Grossenbacher tallied a 3-over 219, with back-to-back 2-under 70s to wrap his fall campaign. He opened with a 79 Monday morning. Aided by a trio of birdies and an eagle on hole No. 1 Tuesday, Grossenbacher gained eight spots and finished 46th in the field of 84.
Pietro Boeris began with a 74 and 76, before notching a 71 Tuesday. He collected four birdies over the final 18 holes.
Antti Vahvaselka rebounded from a 78 and 75 Monday, with a 2-under 70 Tuesday, dropping in four birdies.
TJ Shehee strung together four consecutive birdies Tuesday, tallying a 2-over 74. He birdied the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth holes in succession. Shehee totaled a 76 and 77 on day one.
UNC finished 14th in the 15-team field, eight shots behind Oral Roberts and six strokes in front of UT Arlington. LSU won with 22-under, while Troy and Central Arkansas tied for second at 13-under.
