Mpigachai and Campbell shine on opening day at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Northern Colorado's Jerome Campbell and Regina Mpigachi excelled on the opening day of the Clemson Invite, as Campbell won the men's 60-meter hurdles, while Mpigachi won the women's mile run.
Campbell finished the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.74, just three one-thousandths off his season best mark of 7.71 that he set at the Edmonds-Wilt Invitational in December.
Mpigachi crossed the finish line in 4:46.08, besting second place by nearly five seconds. Her time was just over 1.5 seconds slower than her season best, 4:44.39.
Zachery Wells just narrowly missed out on a third podium for the Bears, claiming fourth in the men's mile run with a time of 4:07.39. His time was also just nine one-thousandths shy of the the shool record.
Freshman August Van de Weijer finished seventh in the men's 400 meter, crossing the line in 48.42.
Jesse Hayward rounded out the day for the men, claiming 11th in the 600 meter with a time of 1:20.95.
In the women's 400 meter, Wendira Moss finished seventh with a time of 56.44. Moss also finished the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.85.

"It was a great day to be a Bear! Jerom and Regina demonstrated what a few highly motivated Northern Colorado Bears can do given the right situation. They were truly amazing today. They competed against a highly competitive power-5 and ACC field. Kudos to Zack Wells, he ran one heck of a mile and just missed the school record by the blink of an eye."

The Bears finish the Clemson Invite tomorrow afternoon with five remaining events. Jerome Campbell, August Van de Weijer and Wendira Moss will all compete in the 200m, Jesse Hayward and Regina Mpigachi both have the 800m, and Zachery Wells runs in the 3000m tomorrow.
