Bears Dominate Bison to Conclude Home Stand
9/4/2022 3:40:00 PM | Women's Soccer
GREELEY, Colo.- There was no better way to close out a four-game home stint for UNC Soccer than with a dominating 5-0 shutout victory over North Dakota State at Jackson Stadium on Sunday. The Bears held nothing back as they maintained field wide control the majority of the match.  Â
Â
Northern Colorado got things started right off the bat, with Melina Faris netting one just over four minutes into regulation to give the Bears an early lead and momentum to feed off of the rest of the match.Â
Â
Following the early goal, Kaya Lindberg kept her team perfect tabbing a save on the single shot on goal she faced in the half, much thanks to a great team defensive effort that stinted the Bison and overpowered them across the pitch.Â
Â
The final minutes of the first half saw a lot of action for UNC as Lucy Hart widened the team's lead finding the back of the net to put the Bears up 2-0. A flood of shots on NDSU's goalie also resulted in a team goal for the Bears after it bounced off of a Bison player and into the net, putting UNC up 3-0 going into halftime.Â
Â
Despite the heat and a solid lead, Northern Colorado remained steadfast and did not slow down. Britney Donais was the next Bear to score thanks to an assist from Hailey Collier at the 53-minute mark, making it a 4-0 match.Â
Â
Less than a minute later, the Bears' relentless offensive attempts once again proved beneficial with Lauren Woodhull getting the ball past the NDSU goalkeeper off an assist from Kalen Niedling. Woodhull has now scored four goals in four consecutive games.Â
Â
The Bison attempted to make a comeback but were only able to get one additional shot off with the Bears' stifling defense, ending the contest 5-0 in favor of Northern Colorado.Â
