Bears Hold Off Eagles for a Rainy Night Draw
9/30/2022 11:28:00 PM | Women's Soccer
GREELEY, Colo.- A little rain certainly did not stop the Bears as they fought to hold the Eastern Washington Eagles to a 1-1 tie at Jackson Stadium on Friday night. Despite a weather delay, UNC proved that rain is a good thing, as they split points with their conference opponent in Greeley.
Both teams worked to create scoring chances in the first half with the Bears outshooting the Eagles, 10-5. Goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg recorded two saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless going into half time.
While the rain slightly let up in the second half, both teams came back stronger. UNC went on to record an additional eight shots in the second half and continued to create scoring chances for themselves. At the 71-minute mark, Melina Faris capitalized on these chances, scoring on a ball from Lauren Woodhull, to give the Bears a brief, 1-0, lead.
However, just two minutes later, EWU answered back, finding the back of the net to make it a 1-1 match.
Northern Colorado did not give in, despite the elements, and battled hard in pursuit of a game winner. Some notable chances came courtesy of Britney Donais, who was able to break away from EWU defenders just outside the box on multiple occasions, but neither team was able to claim a victory, with the match ending in a 1-1 tie.
