GREELEY, Colo.- The heat in Greeley was not letting up, and neither were the Bears as they pulled off a second half comeback against the Valparaiso Beacons to tie, 1-1, on Sunday.
Goalkeeping was the story of the day between UNC and Valpo, with both keepers facing their fair share of shots, but only giving up one each.
Valparaiso came out strong in the first half of the match, putting pressure on UNC goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg, who faced a total of eight shots, recording four saves in the first 45 minutes alone.
Despite three shot attempts by UNC, the Bears remained scoreless in the first half, but were solid defensively.
With just five minutes remaining in the first half, Valpo finally got past Lindberg to lead 1-0 going into the half.
Northern Colorado did not let this late lead intimidate them though and rallied in the second half, capitalizing on the pressure. At the 50-minute mark, Lauren Woodhull snuck one past the Beacons' goalie to equalize the game after back-to-back shots on goal. This marked Woodhull's second goal in two consecutive games for Northern Colorado.
The final minutes of regulation brought multiple scoring chances for each team, with the Bears outshooting Valpo 8-7. However, strong performances in goal from both sides were too much for either team to put away a game-winner, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
