Former Big Sky Champion Joins Women's Basketball Staff

Desiree Jackson joins the UNC women's basketball staff as an assistant coach
GREELEY, Colo. – Head women's basketball coach Kristen Mattio adds a former All-Big Sky player Desiree Jackson to her coaching staff. Jackson, a Big Sky honorable mention in 2014-15, comes to UNC from Riverside City College where she was the Associate Head Coach since 2019.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Desiree to our Bear Family. Her positive energy, connect-ability, and drive to cultivate strong relationships with our players will make our program better. She has invested a lot of time in becoming a strong recruiter and tactical on-court coach," Mattio said. "Desiree is no stranger to the Big Sky Conference. As a player, she helped lead her team to a Big Sky Conference regular season championship at Southern Utah. I'm excited to get her championship mentality on the court with our players and to work alongside her this season!"
Jackson oversaw RCC's weight and conditioning program was the recruiting coordinator and was in charge of the development of their guards. During this time, she has also been the Administrative Director for LPF Inc (AAU) where she organized fundraisers and oversaw its budget. Jackson had been in that role since 2016.
As a student-athlete at Southern Utah, she earned honorable mention honors in 2014-15 under now Colorado coach JR Payne. Jackson also helped the T-Birds to a share of the regular season title in 2013-14 with North Dakota and a berth in the WNIT. That team set a Southern Utah program record with 23 wins. Jackson was a two-time member of the Big Sky's All-Academic team as well.
Jackson started her coaching career at Moreno Valley High School in California as the head coach from 2016-18 before heading to La Sierra University in Riverside, California as an assistant coach for three seasons.
She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Utah in Psychology and Public Administration, respectively.
