Northern Colorado battled in all three contests against St. Thomas, taking one victory in the three-game series versus the Tommies. Lincoln Turner bagged his first-career home run, a grand slam that helped UNC to its only victory of the weekend. Shaydon Kubo also notched his 14th multi-hit game of the season while Jake King has accumulated his second-longest hitting streak of the season at seven games.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Oral Roberts entered the 2022 campaign as the unanimous preseason favorite and while the Golden Eagles dropped two of three to both Omaha and North Dakota State, in just the last week and a half ORU has boasted wins over Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
In his 10th season at the helm of the Golden Eagle program, head coach Ryan Folmar has his squad at the top of nearly every offensive category. In fact, ORU is also top-100 in the country in batting average and scoring.
Oral Roberts isn't just an offensive power unit, though. Its 4.17 team ERA ranks No. 40 in the nation and its .978 fielding percentage is No. 25.
ORU's staff is led by redshirt senior Ledgend Smith who boasts a 1.95 ERA in over 50 innings of work. That mark is good enough for 22nd best in the nation entering the weekend.
The Bears will also have to deal with Caleb Denny who claims a .314 average with 12 doubles, six home runs and a conference-leading 38 RBI.
History against Oral Roberts
The series between UNC and ORU dates back to 1978. However, the two programs haven't met since 1981. While the Golden Eagles have taken all seven matchups, none of the contests have featured a game at Jackson Field.
Looking Ahead
Another pivotal Summit League series is on the horizon with Northern Colorado traveling to Western Illinois for a three-game set against the Leathernecks.
