Men's Hoops Opens Busy Week against Idaho State

Northern Colorado men's basketball faces Idaho State Monday
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball returns home for its final three home games of the 2021-22 season starting Monday when they host Idaho State. UNC looks to avenge its 61-58 loss to ISU in Pocatello last Thursday.

Opening Tip
- Northern Colorado overcame its third double-digit deficit of the season to defeat Weber State in overtime 83-79.
- Daylen Kountz was named the Big Sky Player of the Week after averaging 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists against Southern Utah and Sacramento State.
- Kountz continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring averaging 20.7 points per game and ranking 12th in the nation. In Big Sky play he is averaging 22.2 ppg.
- Matt Johnson II lived up to the nickname Matty Ice in the win. He made the game-tying three and scored seven points in overtime on his way to a career-high 25 points.
- Dru Kuxhausen was key in the Bears come back scoring 21 points, making a trio of threes. He is second in the Big Sky for three's per game (3.15) and three-point field goal percentage (44.3%). That ranks him in the top 20 nationally as well.
- Bodie Hume grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the win.
- The Bears are averaging 78.0 points per game to rank second in the Big Sky and 32nd in the nation.
- Northern Colorado leads the Big Sky in both field goal perentage (47.6%) and three-point field goal shooting (38.5%). They rank in the top 30 in both categories in the nation.
Scouting the Bengals
Idaho State was unable to keep the momentum going after defeating the Bears on Thursday with a n 80-75 home loss to Sacramento State.
The Bengals did a good job slowing down UNC's offense in Pocatello which is important as they average only 64.0 points per game.
Tarik Cools leads the team averaging 12.1 points per game. He was held to just six points in Thursday's game. The quartet of Liam Sorensen, Brayden Parker, Malik Porter and Jared Rodriguez all scored in double figures. Sorensen led the team with 13.
Around the Big Sky
Montana State defeated Southern Utah Saturday afternoon 76-71 to stay atop the standings. Northern Colorado would be the three seed in the Big Sky Tournament if the season ended today.
