BOSTON—Opening the indoor season at Boston University's Sharon Colyear Open, Northern Colorado men's and women's track & field teams combined to set four school records on Saturday.
A pair of Bears earned event titles in the process with Jesse Hayward capturing first place in the 600-meter run with a 1:19.38 while Jerome Campbell topped the field in the 60-meter hurdles with a 7.89.
Shaving .31 off his career best, Hayward's run bettered his own school mark of 1:19.69.
Campbell, meanwhile, posted a 7.82 in the preliminaries of the hurdles before returning with the meet-winning 7.89. The time shattered the previous indoor school best of 8.04 set by Mike Bennett more than 30 years ago (1991).
Campbell also rewrote the all-time school mark with a 34.42 in the 300. Not far behind, teammate August Van de Wijer also nearly dipped under the former record with a 34.76.
Fresh off a record-breaking cross country season, UNC's Regina Mpigachai shaved more than a full minutes off the school record in the 5,000 with a time of 16:12.86. Set during the 2013 season, Rikki Gonzales held the previous fastest time at 17:25.09.
The Bears will continue their indoor season next weekend we they travel to Purdue's Fred Wilt Invitational.
