WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.—A week after posting four school records in the indoor opener, the Northern Colorado track & field teams nearly replicated the feat with three more all-time school marks while competing at Purdue's Edmonds-Wilt Invitational.
Resetting the school record in the 60-meter hurdles last week, Jerome Campbell lowered the mark twice on Saturday. Running in the prelims, Campbell dipped under his own school record by .01 before shattering former mark the with a 7.71 in the finals.
Campbell's 7.71 also broke the Big Sky's all-time record of 7.73 and stands as the No. 2 mark in all of NCAA DI so far this season. Established in the 2020 season, Idaho State's Tanner Conner held the previous conference mark.
In addition to his exploits in the hurdles, Campbell dominated the 60-meter dash with a 6.85 in the opening round and a 6.80 in the finals. The new career best places Campbell tied for fourth on UNC's all-time performance list.
Fresh off a school record in the 5,000 last week, Regina Mpigachai added her name to the top of the school's mile list with a meet-winning 4:47.20. The time slashed more than four seconds of her own school record mark of 4:51.94 set last year. Mpigachai's converted time is good for No. 6 on the NCAA DI performance list this season.
In the men's mile Zach Wells topped the field with a career-best 4:15.58 for the No. 5 time in school history. Wells returned to capture first in the 800 with a 1:55.63 to climb to No. 9 on UNC's indoor performance list while teammate Jesse Hayward followed close behind with a 1:56.03.
The UNC women received a trio of runner-up results as Wendira Moss placed second in the 300, Craiesha Johnson second in the 200, and Kiana Van Haaren second in the long jump. Moss' 300 time of 39.87 was good for a new UNC school mark.
The Bears' final individual event win came in the men's 400 as August Van de Weijer toured the track in 49.19.
The Bears closed out the competition with solid displays in the 1,600-meter relays with the women's quartet taking first in 3:55.37 and the men's group placing second at 3:23.99.
UNC will resume the indoor season on Jan. 13-14 with competitions at the University of Colorado's Potts Invitational.
