Following a triple overtime win earlier in the week, Northern Colorado (6-2) jumped out to an early 11-5 lead thanks to a trio of 3-pointers by Delaynie Byrne.
Byrne went on to score 13 in the half and end the night with a team-high 21.
After a 31-31 score at the break, Hannah Simental took over for the Bears with 17 of her 19 points arriving in the second half. Simmental connected on 2-of-3 from distance and converted all 11 of her chances at the free throw line in the second half to propel the Bears to a 12-point lead late in the third.
Simental's line was two shy of tying the school record for most free throw makes without a miss. Savannah Scott holds the school mark after going 13-of-13 from the stripe during the 2012-13 season.
In addition to the Simental's strong second half, the Bears received clutch and-1 plays from Byrne and Aniah Hall to keep the Coyotes in check with a 15-0 run that turned a three-point deficit early in the second half into a double-digit lead.
South Dakota, a Sweet 16 team a year ago, fell to 4-4 with the result.
A perfect 4-0 at home so far this season, the Bears will close out its homestand against Omaha on Dec. 17. Opening jump against the Mavericks is set for 6 p.m.
