Bears continue streak with Omaha win
12/16/2022 8:45:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Trailing for only 37 seconds in the entire game, Northern Colorado (7-2) claimed an early advantage by holding Omaha to just 19 points in the first half for a 13-point lead at the break. The edge expanded to as many as 27 points late in the fourth quarter.
The 22-point scoring margin was the largest in a UNC win since the Bears routed Portland State, 94-45, late last season.
Despite taking only five field goal attempts, Hannah Simental led UNC with a 17-point performance. Simental connected on 3-of-4 from beyond the 3-point arc and went 6-of-6 from the free throw line to extend her streak to 36 straight conversions from the charity stripe.
Gabi Fields (14), Averee Kleinhans (13) and Delaynie Byrne (10) also reached double figures for the Bears.
Defensively, UNC kept the Mavericks to a cool 30.4 percent from the floor while the 45 points allowed was the lowest total UNC has given up this season.
Following a trip to the Big XII's Kansas State this Sunday, the Bears will face another road test at Samford on Dec. 21 before opening Big Sky play at home against Weber State on Dec. 29.
