Bears take streak to Portland State, Sacramento State

GREELEY, Colo.—Winners of four straight matches, Northern Colorado will look to continue its climb up the Big Sky standings with matches against two of the league's top programs this week.
Northern Colorado (12-8, 6-3 Big Sky) will face Sacramento State on Oct. 27 before traveling to face league leaders from Portland State on Oct. 29.
Opening serve is set for 8 p.m. (MT) on Thursday against the Hornets and at 3 p.m. (MT) on Saturday against the Vikings.
ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE (10-11, 6-3 Big Sky)
Tied for third in the conference along with UNC, the Hornets enter Thursday's match having split their last three weeks of play for a 3-3 mark over that stretch. The Hornets are ranked No. 5 in the Big Sky with a .195 hit rate and No. 2 in the league by holding their opponents to .175. Sacramento State is also No. 2 in the Big Sky after averaging 2.45 blocks per set and 1.71 aces per set.
ABOUT PORTLAND STATE (13-7, 8-1 Big Sky)
The Vikings enter the week with a six-match winning streak. PSU's last loss came in Greeley as UNC defeated PSU 3-0 at home. The top team in the Big Sky with an 8-1 mark in league play, the Vikings are No. 2 offensively (.220) and No. 3 on defense (.190) among the Big Sky rankings. PSU leads the conference with 1.78 aces per set.
HOME SLATE
With an 8-2 record inside the Bank of Colorado Arena, the Bears will look to continue their winning ways at home with three remaining home contests on their schedule. The team will next play at home when they host NAU on Nov. 5. The Bears close out the home slate with Senior Night on Nov. 12 when it welcomes Weber State.

BIG SKY'S TOP OFFENSE
Northern Colorado leads the Big Sky in several offensive categories, including: attack percentage (.278), kills per set, (14.09) assists per set (13.23). Individually, junior setter Syd Cole holds the top average in the conference with 11.34 assists per set.
REIGNING CHAMPS
Northern Colorado enters the 2022 season as the reigning Big Sky regular season and tournament champions. The Bears secured their sixth tournament title in program history in a thrilling five-set match against the Weber State Wildcats in Ogden, Utah. The victory also punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament where they faced Washington State.
2022 BIG SKY PRESEASON POLL
After picking up six of 10 first-place votes, Northern Colorado was picked to repeat as champions in 2022 by the Big Sky Coaches. The Bears received 78 points in the poll while Weber State (70 points) and Portland State (66 points) rounded out the top three. Weber State collected the two remaining first-place picks.
