DENVER – The Selection Committee of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame voted former University of Northern Colorado multi-sport standout Vincent Jackson to its five-member 2023 class.
After resetting the UNC record book and earning multiple All-American honors, Vincent Jackson was drafted in the second round of the 2005 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers.
Jackson went on to play for 12 seasons in the NFL and earned Pro Bowl selections on three occasions — twice with the Chargers (2009 and '11) and once with the Buccaneers (2012).
He topped 1,000 yards receiving in six seasons over a seven-year span from 2008-2014. Jackson caught 540 passes for 9,080 yards and 57 touchdowns in the NFL. His career receiving yards total ranked No. 57 in NFL history upon his retirement and continues to stand at No. 67 on the all-time leaderboard.
In addition to his three Pro Bowl selections, Jackson was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year, and in 2015 he received the USAA Salute to Service Award.
In Greeley, he became UNC's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, kick return yards, punt return yards and receiving touchdowns. Jackson, who earned All-America honors as a punt returner, also played basketball for the Bears. UNC subsequently inducted him into its Athletics Hall of Fame.
Since retiring from football, Jackson devoted himself largely to helping in the community, with his Action 83 Foundation focusing on supporting military families, largely through education and promoting the all-around well-being of kids.
Born in Colorado Springs, Jackson starred at Widefield High School where he owned a 4.0 GPA. Jackson, who died in 2021 at age 38, will be inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame later this month. The 58th Annual 2023 Hall of Fame Banquet is set to take place April 26 at the Hilton Denver City Center.
Joining Jackson in the 2023 Class are former Denver Nuggets Head Coach George Karl, former Denver Broncho Demaryius Thomas, Olympic alpine skiing medalist Jimmie Heuga, and Denver Public Schools superintendent and Olympic Committee member Evie Dennis.
Since its inception in 1965, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame has inducted 276 individuals prior to last week's selection meeting.
