Scouting the Cowgirls
The Cowgirls started the season hot, posting wins against Omaha and South Dakota. However, the non-conference took a different turn following a 1-1 tie with North Dakota State as Wyoming suffered consecutive losses against Minnesota (0-4) and St. Thomas (0-3). It took a 3-1 win over fellow Big Sky member Idaho State for UW to get back in the win column.
First-year head coach Colleen Boyd returns nine starters and 19 letterwinners from a season ago, including junior forward Jamie Tatum. The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native has scored two goals this season and recorded three assists, leading the Cowgirls in points with seven.
Meanwhile, junior forward Faith Joiner is pacing the team in goals with three.
History against Wyoming
UNC is 6-10-1 all-time against its rivals to the north, including a 2-6 mark on the road in Laramie. The last time the Bears bested the Cowgirls in Wyoming came in 2015 when Northern Colorado emerged victoriously, 3-1, in a match played in Cheyenne.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado nearly doubled Cal State Fullerton's shot on goal attempts on Sunday. However, it was the Titans who came away with the 2-1 victory at Jackson Field.
Lexi Pulley had a team-leading four shots, including three on goal, the last of which she buried in the back of the net with just five seconds to play in the match.
It was the third-consecutive one-goal defeat for the Bears since tying, 1-1, with in-state rival Colorado State.
On this Day
September 16 has been good luck for the Bears. UNC is 7-2-1 on the date and has won six of its last eight matches dating back to 1995.
