Sloane Post made a hole-in-one as the Bears closed out the Hobble Creek Fall Classic
SPRINGVILLE, Utah – Northern Colorado Women's golf may not have come home with Hobble Creek Fall Classic trophy on Tuesday but the Bears certainly delivered the most fireworks in Springville, Utah.
UNC finished with a final round +36 (310), good enough to finish in ninth place, ahead of fellow Big Sky members Montana State, Idaho State and Portland State. But it was Sloane Post who stole the show, dialing up her first hole-in-one.
Post, who began her round on the 17th hole, got off to a rocky start with a double but bounced back nicely, birdieing the par-5 18th. Three straight pars had Post cruising along before stepping to the 147-yard par-3 fourth. The Centennial, Colorado native found the bottom of the cup, igniting her final round.
Three more birdies throughout, including one on the 18th hole, helped Post finish with a team-best three over par 73.
Amy Chitkoksoong was sitting just outside the top-10 after consecutive 73's to start the tournament. Chitkoksoong's consistent play yielded the junior a team-high 13 pars on the day but the Aurora native couldn't find a birdie Tuesday, closing with a six-over 77 to finish tied for 17th.
Maria Vallejo had yet to record a birdie through the first two rounds of the tournament but still managed to produce rounds of 78 and 76, respectively. Tuesday, Vallejo finally found red numbers, carding two birdies en route to posting another five-over 76.
Jenna Chun also found her way into the 70's. A back-nine 37 aided Chun to a final-round 77.
Abbi Fleiner had righted the ship after an opening-round 83. Two early birdies on the 13th and 14th holes got Fleiner back to even for the day before back-to-back doubles derailed a solid round. Fleiner would finish with a nine-over 80 and T-67 for the tournament.
Camila Velasquez secured a back-nine 38 as the sophomore shot 83 to finish tied for 83rd.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado returns to Utah next week for the Kelsey Chugg Invite hosted by Weber State at the Wolf Creek Golf Course in Eden, Utah September 20-21.
