Pulley scores late, Bears unable to tackle Titans

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado created nearly double the number of chances than Cal State Fullerton on Sunday but it was the Titans who came away with the victory, 2-1.
Moments into the game, Fullerton was asking questions of the UNC defense and initially, the Bears were up to the task. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Franza collected a pair of saves and a clearance off the line from Maddie Duren kept the game at 0-0 through the first five minutes.
It was off the Titan's second corner, however, that the visitors pounced to take the opening lead. Karla Rodriguez's right-footed effort slipped past Franza and UNC was forced to play from behind.
Over the next hour, Northern Colorado ramped up its offensive effort.
Haley O'Nan, Olivia Seddon and Lexi Pulley each tallied multiple shots, including several on goal. In fact, O'Nan and Pulley each racked up three shots on goal as the Bears delivered a season-high 12 on the Cal State Fullerton frame.
Against the run of play in the 63rd minute, the Titans struck again, this time getting by Morgan Bury. But that didn't stop UNC from continuing to fight on.
While most teams would've packed it in due to frustration from not finding the back of the net, this Bears squad did the opposite.
With just seconds remaining in the contest, Northern Colorado came up with a timely interception, allowing the trio of Taylor Bray, Britney Donais and Lexi Pulley to work the ball down the right-hand side. Inevitably, it was Pulley who slotted home the UNC goal.
Ultimately, it was too little, too late for the Bears as Cal State Fullerton headed back home with the 2-1 win.
