Second-half surge gives Utes win over Bears

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Playing its second match in four days within the Beehive State, Northern Colorado couldn't find a way past Utah. Despite a gritty effort from the Bears, three second-half goals secured the win, 3-0, for the home side.
In the early parts of the 2021 season, senior goalkeeper Morgan Bury has been nothing short of sensational. The Laramie, Wyoming native was equally as impressive in the first half of Sunday's tilt against the Utes.
Utah managed three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, all of which Bury was up to the task for.
After weathering the first several minutes of the contest, Northern Colorado settled into the match creating a couple of key chances off the counter-attack. Forwards Taylor Bray and Britney Donais each recorded a shot and near the end of the half, it was Donais who caused Utah a number of problems with her speed down the right channel.
Seconds after halftime, Olivia Seddon nearly shocked the home fans, capitalizing on a turnover. While the Ute goalkeeper stood firm between the pipes, it signaled the Bears weren't simply going to shy away from the action.
The Bears garnered three shots in the opening half but turned up the pressure in the second. By the time the final whistle sounded, UNC has mustered an additional eight shots, including two on goal.
Bury also continued her sensational play. With eight total saves on the afternoon, she tied her season-high and once again was one shy of tying her career-high.
Utah broke the stalemate in the 55th minute via a shot from well outside the penalty box.
Head coach Tim Barrera's crew mounted a solid response, though, testing the Ute defense once more, but couldn't find the equalizer.
Another curler made it 2-0 in the 80th minute and a penalty in the 84th secured the win for Utah in front of its home fans.

"I'm very proud of the effort the team gave today. We had a couple of chances to change the game but couldn't quite put them away. We battled very well on a long, hot day and I'm sure this will help us going forward this season."
