Head men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow calls it a career
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado head men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow is calling it a career, announcing his retirement on Tuesday.
"It sure was fun ending my career with UNC Athletics! It was a pleasure to work with so many quality coaches and administrators," Prenzlow said. "The student-athletes I had the privilege to share time with were unbelievable! Now it's time to move on and watch our grandkids grow up!"
Prenzlow took over the program in the fall of 2013, leading the Bears to their first-ever NCAA Regional in 2014. He went on to win three conference titles overall and was voted conference Coach of the Year three times as well.
"We want to congratulate Coach Prenzlow on a great career," Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "He has been an exceptional leader of our men's golf program not only winning championships but mentoring the young men. His impact on UNC Athletics goes beyond the golf program and his presence within the department will be missed. We want to wish Roger and his wife Vicki a happy retirement!"
Over Prenzlow's tenure, he coached the conference Player of the Year twice and 14 All-Conference selections. Outside of the links, he had 10 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America scholars and four teams earn the GCAA Academic All-America list.
Prior to Northern Colorado, Prenzlow served as the head men's golf coach at Wyoming from 1982 through 2002.
His 1992 Wyoming team became the school's first-ever to advance to the NCAA West Regional and he coached eight Academic All-Americans throughout his tenure in Laramie.
Prenzlow coached both the men's and women's teams at Wyoming from the time of his hiring in 1982 up until the 1992-93 season, then spent the next 10 years concentrating on the men's program.
