Bears perform well in tune-up for Big Sky Championship

UNC track and field put together multiple season-best performances
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Northern Colorado track and field had one last tune-up before this week's Big Sky Championship competing at the Air Force Twilight Open. The Bears look to be peaking at the right time with multiple personal records at the meet.
Wendira Moss took the 400m open by storm where she beat the entire field of competitors with a time of 55.64 at altitude. The time ranks her fifth in the Big Sky and firth in UNC history.
In the men's 400m, DeMario Mootz ran a season-best of 49.88 to claim fourth in the competition. Teammate Jesse Hayward also ran the 400m and placed sixth.
Ibro Soumah showed up in the men's 100m dash to place sixth overall, finishing in a personal best before conversion with a time of 11.09.
Also in the 100m on the women's side, Ruby Gregory placed fourth with a time of 12.47. Teammate Dorian Nesby crossed the line shortly after with a time of 12.64 to claim fifth. Mikayla Moser finished in seventh with a new season-best time of 13.90.
Steven Cross was the lone Bear to compete in the men's 400m hurdles but he showed up for the team running a new personal best with a time of 56.13.
In the men's 1500m run Timothy Chambers crossed the line six seconds ahead of her previous personal best. After conversion Chambers ran a 4:02.80 at the Twilight Open and placed eighth overall in the meet.
Noah Smith ran a season-best in the 800m crossing the line at 2:05.10
In the field events, Anders Buettenback jumped to a season-best in the pole vault with a mark of 4.15m.
On the women's side, UNC loaded up the 800m run finishing 1-2. Melodie Leroudier led the group of Bears winning the event with a time of 2:23.55. Julia Brown crossed the line shortly after with a time of 2:24.42 claiming second.
Alison Zigler debuted in the 800m for the first time in her college career to run 2:31.24 and place fifth, following her was Natasha Perales who ran a season-best of 2:31.63. Samantha Angus rounded out the Northern Colorado group finishing in the top 10 for the event.
The last event of the day was the 200m dash, Kelsi Schuetz moved into the top 15 of the Big Sky after Friday where she ran a time of 24.91 with conversion and placed third amongst the field.
Ruby Gregory also had a season-best to dip below 25 seconds running a time of 24.99 with altitude conversion, where she placed fourth.
Teammate Olivia Whitaker placed fifth for the Bears in the 200m dash and Amber Johnson placed eighth.
What's Ahead
It is off to Ogden, Utah for the 2021 Big Sky Championship over May 12-15.
