Baseball drops final game of the series to Utah

OGDEN, Utah – It just wasn't Northern Colorado's day at Lindquist field. Despite taking the lead early on, Utah managed to continuously push runs across the plate to earn the win, 12-3.
Freshman Ian Torpey earned his first start on the bump in his young career, kicking Monday's contest off with a near-perfect inning.
Two strikeouts and a groundout set the Utes down 1-2-3 and set up what would be a solid outing for the San Jose California, native.
Torpey pitched three full innings, gave up just one earned run and tied a career-high with three strikeouts.
In the top of the third inning, Sam Leach's second single of the day ignited the Bears' offense to put up two runs. A double steal led to a Utah error, scoring Garrett Fisher. Two batters later, Ben McKay's sacrifice fly brought in Leach to give UNC the brief lead.
Then, Utah decided to flex its muscles. Scoring three runs in the fourth, three in fifth and four in the sixth put the game just out of reach for the Bears.
While Quinn Ayers did deliver an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth, it was too little too late as the Utes cruised to a 12-3 victory.
