LEADING OFF
The Bears' iron man Sam Leach has not only posted some good performances on the mound this season, but the redshirt junior also has a 16-game hit streak going, the most since Nick Tanner in 2018.
With six home runs apiece, Matt Burkart and Jake Gitter are tied atop the WAC's list of long-ball hitters.
Speaking of Burkart, the Eaton, Colorado native has five multi-RBI games this season. Four times he's collected two RBI and has dialed up three RBI once this year.
Meanwhile, Gitter's dangerous presence in the lineup has earned him 15 walks entering the weekend. No one in the WAC has totaled more and Gitter ranks No. 58 in the country in the category.
No one on UNC's roster pushes more runs across than Josh Glenn. The Gateway Community College product is tied for first in the conference and No. 39 in the nation with 22 RBI in just 19 appearances in 2021.
Glenn's six sacrifice flies are also best in the WAC and No. 1 in the country.
Northern Colorado's big right-hander Dylan Bowers has been nothing if consistent on the bump this year. With 38 strikeouts so far, Bowers leads the WAC and will be looking for more this weekend.
Sam Leach is one of only three pitchers in the conference and 12 in the country who have pitched a complete game this season.
Freshman Dylan Day has been a bright spot in the Bears' bullpen this season, appearing in three games with a team-leading 1.69 ERA in 5.1 innings of work.
Head coach Carl Iwasaki remains one win away from his 200th career victory at UNC. He would be the fourth coach in program history to reach that mark.
SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY
Since winning its first two games of the season, Utah Valley has dropped 14 straight contests. Earlier this week, the Wolverines nearly pulled off a comeback against Beehive State rival BYU, scoring four runs in the sixth inning before the Cougars regained control.
Head coach Eric Madsen enters his 13th year at the helm of the UVU program. Second baseman Mitch Morales enters the weekend with a six-game hitting streak and leads the team with a .343 batting average and is second in RBI with eight.
A LOOK AHEAD.
Northern Colorado stays at home for Easter-weekend baseball welcoming Seattle. The four-game series begins on Thursday, April 1.
