Volleyball takes five-match win streak on the road to Portland State

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Volleyball is taking the show on the road. After sweeping Sacramento State, the Bears travel to the great northwest for two matches against Portland State.
Who: Northern Colorado (5-1, 5-1) vs. Portland State (1-5, 0-4)

Northern Colorado is coming off one of its best performances of the season, completing two sweeps over Sacramento State.
Sunday was the Bears' best effort offensively, hitting a season-high .282 as a team.
Senior outside hitter Taylor Muff eclipsed 100 career aces on Monday against the Hornets. Muff is only the third player to reach the century mark in program history and is just six aces away from breaking the program's D-I record.
UNC's defense looked downright impenetrable versus Sacramento State, four different Bears finished with a double-figure dig total on the weekend and Northern Colorado held the Hornets to .042 hitting across its two matchups. In fact, UNC now ranks first in the conference in opponent hitting percentage, holding them to .118.
Entering last weekend, Sacramento State was the best serving team in the Big Sky. The Bears were able to flip the script on the Hornets, combining for 21 aces to just two from Sacramento State. Nationally, UNC is 18th in the nation and first in the conference at 2.10 aces per set.
Making her first appearance of the season over the weekend, Makenzie Harris found success on the right side, recording five kills in Monday's win over Sacramento State.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado swept Sacramento State in each of its two matchups over the weekend. The Bears hit north of .250 while keeping the Hornets to just .042 combined between Sunday and Monday.
Both Daisy Schultz and Taylor Muff picked up a double-double versus Sacramento State. Each now has three for the season.
Scouting Portland State
The Vikings were tabbed to finish seventh following the preseason poll last fall. Though head coach Michael Seemann's squad is off to a 1-5 start, Portland State has forced five sets in five of the six matches they've played.
Sophomore Jasmine Powell recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Eastern Washington last weekend. On Monday, four Vikings finished with 14 or more kills in the match.
As a team, PSU ranks first in the Big Sky in digs at 17.79 per set and second in assists per set with 11.14.
History Against the Vikings
The Bears will be looking to make headway in the all-time record between the two programs. Currently, Portland States holds a 14-21 mark against the Bears.
Looking Ahead
It'll be pertinent for UNC not to overlook Portland State with Weber State coming into Greeley in a week's time. The preseason No. 2 and current No. 1 team in the Big Sky arrives at the Bank of Colorado Arena for a two-game set next Saturday, February 20.
