GREELEY, Colo. – Another evening of balanced offense from Northern Colorado provided a breadth of excitement for the home fans inside Bank of Colorado Arena. Rachel Hickman led the way with 14 kills as UNC bested the Bengals, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16).
Rachel Hickman and Kailey Jo Ince undeniably owned the first set. Six kills on .857 hitting from the junior out of Lawrence led the way. Five more kills for Ince and UNC had all it need for an opening set win.
Syd Cole and Makenzie Harris each added an ace as Northern Colorado carried all the momentum into the second set.
It didn't take long for the Bears to find a lead in set No. 2. Lauren Strain and Makenzie Harris each started the set out hot as UNC jumped out to a 9-3 advantage before the Bengals called a timeout.
Northern Colorado hit a massive .429 in the opening frame and somehow, found a way to eclipse its performance in the second.
Three errors were all UNC divulged as the Bears hit an enormous .433. While Hickman piled up 11 kills, Syd Cole spread the offensive love around, letting Ince claim seven and Lauren Strain six.
On the evening, Northern Colorado posted its highest hitting percentage of any match this season with a .344.
Between Hickman and Strain alone, the dynamic duo combined for 24 kills with Strain refusing to commit a single error.
Three separate 3-0 runs to begin the third set allowed UNC to create some separation.
Defensively, it was Laura Katarzynski who led the way with 10 digs. Syd Cole and Kyndall Feather weren't far behind with eight and nine, respectively.
Syd Cole continued to do her thing, setting up Ince and Makenzie Harris as Cole supplied tremendous balance to Bears offense, even calling her number for two kills.
The sophomore from Parker, Colorado even capped off the evening with a pair of aces, giving her a career-high four for the evening.
