Volleyball drops first Big Sky match, looks ahead to Idaho State Friday
10/7/2021 7:37:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
OGDEN, Utah. – Lauren Strain reached double figures in kills yet again but it wasn't enough to chase down Weber State as the Bears dropped its first Big Sky match of the season to the Wildcats, 0-3 (16-25, 17-25, 6-25).
Serving was the name of the game in the opening set. An aggressive effort from the service line for WSU gave the home side an early jolt.
An 8-1 run from the Wildcats had the Bears playing from behind early.
After a timeout from head coach Lyndsey Oates, the Bears looked more like themselves. Offensive Player of the Week Lauren Strain picked up four kills as Michaela Boon added an ace to get UNC back within three.
Six aces from Weber State were too much, however, as the home side took the first set.
Back into the lineup, junior outside hitter Makenzie Harris found a little production on the left side. Harris tallied seven kills on a team-high .174 hitting on the night.
The Wildcats only picked up one ace in the second set, the Bears just couldn't get any rhythm rolling in Ogden.
While Strain added another four kills, finishing with a team-high 10, little runs from Weber State created too much separation for UNC to overcome, falling behind two sets to none.
Northern Colorado just couldn't catch a break in the third. Another opening run from WSU put the Bears behind the eight ball.
UNC hit -.167 in the final frame while Weber State managed .321 to secure the victory for the Wildcats.
