GREELEY, Colo. – Taylor Bray scored two goals for the Bears on a night that saw the Northern Colorado shine on both sides of the ball, leading to a resounding 4-1 victory over Portland State.
Bray wasn't the only one making splash plays for UNC.
Lexi Pulley started off the scoring for Northern Colorado by finding the net early on in the first half, and the team didn't stop there.
Less than two minutes later, Taylor Bray hit one on the right side of the net to put UNC up, 2-1.
Maddie Duren also got in on the action and increased UNC's lead late in the first half off a penalty kick which she hit right into the left side of the net.
Sydney Engelkins, Melina Faris and Olivia Seddon also came up huge throughout the course of the evening. Seddon set up Pulley for the first goal of the night while Faris and Engelkins helped to set up Bray's goals. Seddon and Engelkins also took multiple shots at the goal as well.
Haley O'Nan and Hailey Collier had good chances from the right side just outside the penalty boxes.
While the offense was clicking, the Bears played stifling defense and goalkeeper Morgan Bury made some big save, including a diving effort in second half as Portland State was looking to get back into the contest.
UNC allowed one PSU goal in the 66th minute, but the Bears responded just seven minutes later with Bray scoring her second goal of the night. After that, the Bears never looked back and its defense just clamped down more and more as the minutes went by.
The Bears also kept the fouling to a minimum, totaling five total fouls in the match compared to Portland State's 10.
As the clock hit zeros, the Bears celebrated the 3-0 start to conference play with its 4-1 victory over the Vikings.
