GREELEY, Colo. – Four conference games, four wins for Northern Colorado Soccer.
Haley O'Nan and Lexi Pulley netted a goal apiece as UNC stretched its Big Sky winning streak to four with a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State.
After falling, 1-0, to Montana, Sacramento State was determined to give the Bears a strong effort Sunday at Jackson Stadium.
Scoring chances were limited in the first 45 minutes of play as the two battled back and forth throughout the midfield.
Shots ended 5-4 in favor of UNC in the first half and the lone save was professionally handled by senior Ashley Franza.
Utilizing a deep bench in the opening period, Northern Colorado was intent on taking advantage of its fresh legs to begin the second.
Just two minutes after halftime, O'Nan picked up a ball on the right side of midfield. With no Sacramento State defender closing her down, the Hornets dared her to shoot. A dare she gladly accepted.
The Aurora, Colorado native curled one into the top left corner from over 20 yards out, netting her second goal of the season and vaulting the Bears into the lead.
Coupled with a brick wall of a back line, UNC had the confidence to move forward. Pulley, Britney Donais and Melina Faris all enjoyed running down the outside channels. Even freshman Lucy Hart sprang forward from the outside back position.
From only five shots in the first half, Northern Colorado tripled its offensive production in the second.
Pulley, Olivia Seddon, O'Nan, Faris and Taylor Bray all took cracks at the Sacramento State goal.
UNC's cushion came in the 87th minute as Faris sped down the right side, cutting a gorgeous pass back to Pulley who navigated around the keeper and slotted home her ninth goal of the season.
The goal was also Pulley's 20th of her career, tying her with Kelley Hudson for 10th all-time.
Franza, Erika Hall, Maddie Duren, Hailey Collier, Lucy Hart and the rest of the Northern Colorado defense had more than enough momentum to keep the clean sheet and earn UNC its fourth straight Big Sky win.
