Experience and Expertise Added to Administrative Staff

UNC Athletics welcomes a new Assistant AD of Compliance, Assistant AD of Marketing and Fan Engagement and Director of Administration and Fan Engagement
GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Athletic Department added experience and expertise to its administration staff with the hiring of Matthew Boyd, Tori Thompson and Hope McConkey. The trio take over the positions of Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance, Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement and Director of Administration and Engagement, respectively.
Matthew Boyd, Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance
Boyd makes his way to Greeley from Palo Alto, California and Stanford University. As the Assistant Director of Compliance for two years at Stanford, Boyd was in charge of managing and processing athletic scholarships and institutional aid for 850 student-athletes in 32 different NCAA Division I sports.
"I am excited to welcome Matthew Boyd to the Bears Family," Associate AD/SWA Rachel Walton said. "It was clear during our search that he will bring a new level of creativity and innovation to our department."
He regularly met and helped guide all the coaching staffs with scholarship forecasting and NCAA rules regulations.
"My family and I are extremely excited to join the University of Northern Colorado and Bears athletics staff, Boyd said of joining the UNC Athletics Department. I appreciate the opportunity that Director of Athletics Darren Dunn and Associate Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator Rachel Walton have given me to join the compliance team and I look forward to working with the coaches, staff, student-athletes and the campus community at Northern Colorado."
Prior to working at Stanford, he worked at Kansas State for three years as the Assistant Director of Financial Aid – Athletics Scholarship Certification Liaison for three years. Boyd started his career as a Financial Aid Specialist at William Jewell College.
Boyd earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City in Business Administration and master's from Central Missouri in Sports Management.
Tori Thompson, Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement
Thompson joins the UNC staff after three years at Northwestern State as the Assistant AD of Marketing.
"I am so excited and thankful to be joining the University of Northern Colorado Athletics staff and the Bear family. I look forward to bringing my skill set to the table to help achieve our present and future goals, promote our student-athletes and continue to enhance the UNC brand! GO BEARS!"
At Northwestern State, Thompson not only oversaw the marketing department but spearheaded the department's digital media presence. She was in charge of promoting all 12 Division I sports along with running the marketing gameday operations. Thompson also oversaw all home game live stream production for baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball.
"We're thrilled to have someone of Tori's expertise, ability and experience joining the Bear family to lead our marketing and engagement efforts," Senior Associate Athletic Director David Sabolcik. "She brings a great deal of energy, a proven track record of success and creative ideas on how to increase our attendance, outreach and in-game atmosphere and will be an excellent leader for our team."
One of her most successful projects at NSU was implementing a new time-saving social media program to the department in BoxOut Sports. The campaign helped unify Northwestern State's brand and give them a distinct identity.
As the lone full-time member of the marketing department, she oversaw the marketing graduate assistant and all interns.
Thompson was a University Recruiter and GA for Marketing at NSU before becoming the Assistant AD of Marketing.
She earned both her bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in sports administration from Northwestern State.
Hope McConkey, Director of Administration and Engagement
McConkey was elevated into the role of Director of Administration and Engagement after spending the 2019-20 year as the Marketing and Fan Engagement Coordinator.
As the Director of Administration and Engagement, she will oversee the department's community outreach with programs such as Read with the Bears and Klawz Cub Club program along with assisting in the marketing efforts for men's basketball and wrestling.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to take the next step in my career as the Director of Administration and Engagement," McConkey said. I am even more excited that it is a position that allows me to stay with the Bears and the UNC community!"
McConkey has been apart of the UNC Athletics family since 2017 starting as a Marketing Intern before taking over as the Marketing and Fan Engagement Graduate Assistant for the 2018-19 season. Most recently, McConkey was the Marketing and Fan Engagement Coordinator.
Her responsibilities over that time have including overseeing all marketing and gameday experience for women's basketball, wrestling and baseball. She has helped manage all of Northern Colorado Athletics' social media platforms as well. As the coordinator, she also oversaw the work of the graduate assistant and internship program.
Some of the biggest community engagement programs she has overseen at UNC include the Klawz's Cub Club and Read with the Bears programs.
McConkey is a two-time graduate of Northern Colorado with her bachelor's degree in sport and exercise science and master's in sports administration.
