Fifty Bears Make the Spring Big Sky Conference All-Academic Team

UNC Athletics placed 50 student-athletes on the Spring Academic All-Big Sky team
FARMINGTON, Utah – Fifty University of Northern Colorado spring sport student-athletes earned a spot on the Academic All-Big Sky team announced on Thursday. The honors come off a record Spring 2020 semester for the UNC Athletic department that produced a department-best 3.42 term GPA.
Softball led the way for the Bears with 11 student-athletes on the list followed by nine from women's outdoor track and field, seven each from men's outdoor track and field and women's tennis, six men's and women's golfers and four men's tennis student-athletes.
Both men's and women's golf tied for the most honorees in their sport while women's tennis came in second, one behind Montana State.
Three student-athletes hold a 4.00 GPA in women's golf Morgan Sahm, women's outdoor track and field's Kylie Chavez and softball's Maggie Thurston. Of the 50 honorees, 18 have a GPA of 3.75 or above.
For the year, Northern Colorado has placed 157 student-athletes on All-Academic teams for the 2019-20 season.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions. Pitchers in softball are eligible having appeared in 30 percent of the team's games. In track & field, student-athletes who competed at the 2019 outdoor conference championships and/or the 2020 indoor conference championships are eligible. 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
