GREELEY, Colo. – UNC and North Dakota State began Sunday play by finishing game three of the series that was postponed due to light yesterday. The Bison were able to get their first win over the Bears in that game 11-2 before the teams began their series finale. North Dakota State would win the final game 9-3 to split the four- game series with the Bears.
Dylan Bowers would get the start in the final game against North Dakota State. Bowers would pitch 3.2 innings, striking out four batters and allowing four earned runs.
The Bears got their first runs in the bottom of the first off the Matt Burkart single which brought in Josh Glenn and Hayden Heinze to give UNC the early 2-1 lead. Aiden Leahy would bring in one more run in the inning off an error to make the score 3-1 going into the second.
After scoreless second and third innings, the Bison had a three-run fourth inning to take the lead 4-3, and added two more in the fifth to push it to 6-3.
The Bison would add three more runs before the game ended, taking the final game and splitting the series with their 9-3 win.
Head Coach Carl Iwasaki continues to look for improvement from his team in this young season,
"We are going to need to learn how to win series. . .to take three out of four is our goal. We fell short by one game. . .my intention is to learn from some of the opportunites we missed on, even in our two wins we have to understand what we need to solidify to be our best."
The Bears hit the road again as they have a quick turnaround with two games in Lincoln, Nebraska against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will travel to the bay area for a three-game weekend series against the San Jose State Spartans.
