Baseball Falls in Game One vs Huskers

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Bears got back on the road after their home series this past weekend and headed east on I-76 towards Lincoln, Nebraska for two games against the Cornhuskers. The University of Nebraska was able to take the first game over the Bears by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday evening.
Head Coach Carl Iwasaki couldn't complain about the effort his team gave today,
"Boys fought hard today. We pitched and played solid defense and battled at the plate. We need to come back tomorrow with the same intensity and play for a series split."
Cooper Rust made his first start on the mound this season for the Bears, going 4.2 innings and only allowing one earned run to the Huskers. Rust put away three consecutive batters in the fourth inning to keep Nebraska off the board before Sam Wyatt would relieve Rust in the fifth inning.
Wyatt put together a nice outing to keep the Bears in striking distance of Nebraska, striking out six batters in his 2.1 innings on the mound. Logan Chase would pitch the final inning for the Bears, getting a strikeout and not allowing a hit.
Both teams could only tally two hits each through three innings, and the Huskers were the first on the board, scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth. That run would be the only run of the game to give Nebraska the 1-0 win in game one.
Sam Leach lead the offense for UNC, going 2-3 at the plate and getting walked once. Shaydon Kubo and Aiden Leahy added the other two hits for UNC on the day.
The Bears get one more shot at grabbing a win over the Cornhuskers tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 PM before they head to the Bay Area for a matchup against San Jose State this weekend.
