Northern Colorado battled Montana, but could not push ahead
Northern Colorado women's basketball could not complete the season sweep of Montana, falling to the Griz, 70-55.
Alisha Davis recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 20 points on 5-of-13 shooting, along with a career-high 16 rebounds. Davis also recorded a career high, 10 free throws made. UNC shot 30.2 percent for the game.
Montana controlled the paint, outscoring UNC 36-22 and outrebounding them 43-34. McKenzie Johnston scored 22 points for the Griz.
The Bears and Griz battled in the first quarter, as UNC finished with a 33.3 shooting percentage and Montana had a 50 percent mark. Davis scored seven of her points in the quarter and had six quick rebounds. UNC trailed 17-14 after the first.
In the second, the Griz would continue to score effectively, notching 18 points on 53.3 percent shooting. Johnston scored six points to led Montana, while Davis countered with four of her own. The Griz led 35-25 at halftime despite Davis recording a first half, double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The third quarter was an offensive spectacle from the two teams as Montana scored 26 points and UNC poured in 22. Alexis Chapman hit three, three-pointers in the quarter to lead the Bears. UNC trailes 61-47 after three quarters.
Montana would edge UNC, 9-8 in the fourth to close out the game for the Griz. Davis tacked on four points in the quarter but could not overcome the deficit against the Griz. Montana would defeat Northern Colorado 70-65.
