Huskers Take Midweek Matchup Over Bears

LINCOLN, Neb. – Northern Colorado Baseball played the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the finale of their two-game midweek matchup in Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon. The Huskers defended their home field and defeated the Bears 8-1.
Hayden Heinze earned the Bears first hit in the top of the third with his single, and then put himself in scoring position by stealing second, trying to help get the Bears on the board. The Bears couldn't capitalize and left Heinze on base.
Cooper Rust got the second hit for the day for the Bears with his double to center field, putting himself in good scoring position. Billy Moreland would follow that up and hit a double of his own to bring in Rust and put the first run on the board for UNC to make the score 8-1 in the top of the seventh.
The Bears used four pitchers in the final five innings, not allowing a single hit to the Huskers after the third inning. Iain Isdale, Daylon Matthews, Hunter Miller, and Ashton Mansur all contributed to that effort.
The Bears will now travel to the Bay Area for a three-game weekend series against the San Jose Spartans. Game one in San Jose will be on Friday, March 13 at 7 PM MT.
