McCaffrey, UNC Football Complete 2020 Recruiting Class

Northern Colorado football completed its 2020 recruiting class on Wednesday
First year head coach Ed McCaffrey completed his inaugural recruiting class on Wednesday with the addition of 20 signees and two mid-year transfers to go along with the three signees from the early signing period in December. The class breaks down to 15 signees on the offensive side of the ball and 10 on defense.
"We are fired up about the recruiting class we put together over the past month. It was a hit the ground running effort from the staff and they did a great job," head coach Ed McCaffrey said. "All of the young men we added want to be champions in life and have the drive to do that along with their football skill set. A focus of this class was adding size to our roster and multi-sport athletes."
Twelve different states are represented in the class from California to Florida. The most signees come from Colorado with five followed by Texas with four.
Andrew Brister | QB | 6'5" | 198 lbs. | Monroe, La. | Neville HS
A familiar last name will be joining the Northern Colorado football team with the signing of Andrew Brister. The son of Bonnie and Bubby Brister, his dad played 15 seasons in the NFL including the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The product from Louisiana lettered three times in high school. In his senior season, he passed for 1,392 yards and 25 touchdowns for Neville High School. He led his school to the second seed in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 4A playoffs and they advanced to the semifinals in 2019.
Brister chose Northern Colorado over Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana, Nicholls and Jacksonville State.
Joe Brown | OL/DL | 6'2" | 328 lbs. | Flint, Mich. | Desert Pines HS
Joe Brown brings some beef to the trenches for Northern Colorado coming to UNC from Desert Pines High School. A versatile player he can play on either the offensive or defensive line. Brown led his team to the semifinals of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association 4A playoffs.
He will be joined at UNC by his high school teammates Darius Stewart and Elijah Wade.
Brown chose to become a Bear over New Mexico, the University of Mary and Ferris State.
Julian Clemons | OL | 6'2" | 253 lbs. | Quartz Hill, Calif | Quartz Hill HS
Football runs in the blood of the Clemons family as Julian Clemons dad Randy Clemons Sr played at Utah State and older brother Randy Clemons II played a year at UNC before moving on to College of the Canyons.
The younger Clemons was a three-time All-CIF offensive lineman and earned All-Golden League honors three times as well. He was the Quartz Hill HS offensive lineman all four years. Not only has he excelled on the football field, but he has been a three-time all-academic performer.
Clemons elected to come to UNC over UNLV, Cal Poly, Linfield and Azusa Pacific.
Giancarlo Duplessy | FS | 5'11 ½" | 174 lbs. | Fort Myers, Fla. | Evangelical Christian HS
Giancarlo Duplessy was a three-sport athlete at Evangelical Christian High School competing in football, basketball and track, lettering in all three. During his senior season on the football team, he earned first team All-District honors and named the team's Defensive Player of the Year. He recorded 72 tackles to earn honors including two for a loss.
He helped lead ECHS to the state semifinals in 2019.
Duplessy picked Northern Colorado over Bryant, St. Thomas, Tuskegee, Valdosta State and West Florida.
Noah Ford | WR | 6'1" | 170 lbs. | McKinney, Texas | McKinney North HS
Noah Ford aims to be the next big playmaker at the wide receiver position out of Texas following the suit of former UNC Bear and current Chicago Bear Alex Wesley and current Bear Jaren Mitchell. The three-sport athlete played football and basketball and ran track at McKinney North High School.
Ford was a first team All-District player in 2019 and second team in 2018. He helped lead his team to a district championship his senior season and made it to the second round of the state playoffs. On the track, Ford is a two-time qualifier for high jump and hurdles.
He raked up 986 yards of total offense and 11 touchdowns his senior season.
Ford decided to join the Bears over Stephan F. Austin and Angelo State among many others.
Brycen Heil | DL | 6'0" | 264 lbs. | Aurora, Colo. | Grandview HS
Brycen Heil is keeping with family tradition by coming to UNC like his dad Brian who was a Bear from 1993-97. A three-time letterman at Grandview High School in Aurora, he was a second team All-State honoree in 2019 and first team All-Conference.
A two-year team captain and three-year starter, Heil helped GHS to two conference titles and a pair of trips to the 5A state semifinals.
Heil came to UNC over Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, CSU Pueblo and Chadron State.
Makhi Johnson | DB | 6'0" | 185 lbs. | San Antonio, Texas | Southwest HS
Makhi Johnson was a two-way player for Southwest High School in San Antonio earning unanimous first team All-District honors as both a wide receiver and cornerback. He also earned first team All-State 5A honors at corner.
Johnson helped his team to the 2018 district and bi-district championship and 2019 bi-district championship. He also ran track in high school.
At Southwest High School he logged 85 tackles. He had 368 yards receiving his senior season. Â
Ethan Kramer | OL | 6'5" | 285 lbs. | Colorado Springs, Colo. | Pine Creek HS
Ethan Kramer comes to UNC after winning a pair of 4A state championships at Pine Creek High School. He was a multi-year Colorado High School Athletic Association all-state game participant and Gazette Peak Performer all-state selection.
Kramer earned first team Academic All-State honors in 2018 and 2019. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and principals honor roll.
Northern Colorado earned Kramer's commitment over Idaho State, Murray State, Columbia and Penn.
Jihad Marks | WR | 6'1" | 189 lbs | Goodyear, Ariz. | Desert Edge HS
Jihad Marks is a three-sport athlete from Goodyear, Arizona. He earned letters in football, basketball and track. In his senior season, he had 99 receptions for 19 touchdowns. That performance helped Desert Edge HS advance to the 4A state title game. Marks accumulated 2,879 yards and 34 touchdowns over his junior and season. He was also a punt and kick returner in high school.
Marks' brother Elijah played wide receiver at Northern Arizona.
He chose Northern Colorado over NAU, South Dakota State, UTEP and Idaho.
Justin Martz | DE | 6'1" | 250 lbs | Palos Verdes Estate, Calif. | El Camino CC
Justin Martz will make an instant impact on the Bears defensive line coming from El Camino CC. This past year he had 79 tackles including 38 for a loss and seven sacks. That performance earned him first team All-League honors.
Prior to El Camino CC, Martz played at Palos Verdes High School where they won the Bay League Championship.
Martz chose Northern Colorado over Cal Poly, Fresno State, Morehead State and Mercer.
Nick Norris | DE | 6'4" | 225 lbs | Fort Morgan, Colo. | Fort Morgan HS
Norris makes the quick trip from Fort Morgan to Greeley to become a Bear. At Fort Morgan High School he was a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. He earned first team All-State in 2019 and second team in 2018.
A varsity player for three seasons at FMHS, Norris made 105 total tackles, 21 for a loss, and six sacks.
He has also been selected as a second team all-conference player for basketball.
Norris picked UNC over New Mexico State, San Diego, CSU Pueblo and Chadron State.
Nate Overholt | QB | 6'2" | 210 lbs | Wilsonville, Ore. | Tyler JC
The 2018 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year joins the Northern Colorado football roster after a year at Tyler Junior College. He earned the Gatorade Player of the Year mark by setting a state record throwing 59 touchdowns as a senior at Wilsonville.
Along with being the Gatorade Player of the Year, he was the state's 5A Offensive Player of the Year, all-state and all-league selection.
He spent one year at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.
Donovan Payne | WR | 6'5" | 208 lbs | Mesquite, Texas | John Horn HS
Donovan Payne's big body and athleticism will be added to the wide receiver group. He helped his high school go from 3-7 his sophomore year to making it to the third round of the Texas state playoffs as a junior. He was both a receiver and a returner for his high school.
Payne was a second team  all-district member.
He chose to become a Bear over Northwestern State, Lamar and Alcorn State.
Max Pierce | TE | 6'2" | 248 lbs | Gilroy, Calif. | City College of San Francisco
Max Pierce brings smash-mouth football back to UNC as a tight end from Gilroy, California. He comes to UNC after a successful year at City College of San Francisco where he had 10 receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Pierce showed off his ability to run block and pass protect too earning him all-state and all-conference honors.
In high school, he was a two-time all-league selection. He helped Gilroy High School to the D5 CCS Championship.
Pierce picked to join the football team at UNC over Lamar, UMass and UTEP.
RJ Potts | LB | 6'2" | 231 | Fishers, Ind. | Cincinnati
RJ Potts will make an instant impact on UNC's defense as a linebacker transfer from Cincinnati. After redshirting at Cincy his freshman year, he saw limited action last season leading him to UNC.
Recruited as a safety, Potts was a top-30 prospect for his position out of Fishers High School. Potts was a four-star recruit according to 247Sports.com. Rivals.com and Scouts.com. Scout rated him as the top player in the state of Indiana and one of the three best safeties in the Midwest.
Out of high school, Potts was also recruited by Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue and Nebraska among many others.
His dad Roosevelt, played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens as a running back.
Gene Sledge Jr. | RB | 6'2" | 235 lbs | Huntsville, Ala. | Vista Peak HS
Gene Sledge Jr. gives the Bears backfield a big, physical back to wear down Big Sky defenses. The Huntsville, Alabama native attended Vista Peak High School in Aurora where he earned second team all-state honors.
He twice had seasons over 1,000 yards rushing. Sledge is a three time all-league and all-conference selection. He helped Vista Peak go a perfect 10-0 in the regular season and earn the third seed in the CHSAA 4A playoffs.
Sledge committed to UNC over CSU Pueblo and Nebraska Kearney.
Darius Stewart | RB | 5'9" | 182 lbs | Las Vegas, Nev. | Desert Pines HS
Darius Stewart is a big play threat on any down when he joins the UNC football roster. The running back from Las Vegas was a two-sport athlete at Desert Pines High School in football and track.
Stewart helped lead his team to the semifinals of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association 4A playoffs.
He will be joined at UNC by his high school teammates Joe Brown and Elijah Wade.
Stewart chose UNC over BYU, Wyoming, Nevada and Utah State.
Jasiah Snow-Marshall | WR | 6'1" | 209 lbs | Tacoma, Wash. | Lincoln HS
Jasiah Snow-Marshall comes to UNC from Tacoma, Washington playing at Lincoln High School. He was a four-time letter winner in football and two-year for track. During his senior season, he had 785 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. For his high school career he had 71 receptions for 1,182 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Snow-Marshall led LHS to a league championship and semifinal appearance.
He chose UNC over Eastern Washington, Central Washington, Montana and Montana State.
Elijah Wade | LB | 6'3" | 235 lbs | Las Vegas, Nev. | Desert Pines HS
Elijah Wade is bringing playmaking skills to the linebackers for UNC from Desert Pines HS in Las Vegas. A three-star recruit according to 247Sports.com he also wrestled at DPHS. He was a two-time first team all-northeast selection. In his senior year he earned second team all-state honors.
A three year varsity player he recorded 128 tackles including 29 for a loss, 10 sack and had one interception.
He will be joined at UNC by his high school teammate Joe Brown and Darius Stewart.
J'onta Waller | DB | 6'1' | 187 lbs | San Antonio, Texas | O'Connor HS
J'onta Waller comes to UNC from O'Connor High School in San Antonio, Texas. A three-sport athlete, he was a two-time All-District selection in high school. Over his high school career, he had 59 tackles, a blocked punt and three interceptions.
Waller knows what it takes to win going undefeated in the regular season twice before advancing in the Texas high school state football playoffs.
Waller decided to be a Bear over Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and West Texas A&M.
Tofa Wilson | LB | 6'1" | 209 lbs | Las Vegas, Nev. | Foothill HS
Tofa Wilson is the second linebacker from Sin City to join the Bears. A first team all-state selection he led the state of Nevada in sacks his senior season. He was also named first team all-conference and the Southeast Defensive MVP.
He recorded 26 sacks over his junior and senior seasons of high school.
Wilson picked Northern Colorado over BYU, Weber State, University of Mary and Pacific University.
Zain Zinicola | WR | 5'10" | 178 lbs | Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Valor Christian HS
Already familiar with Coach McCaffery's offense, Zain Zincola joins the UNC football team. A threat all over the field he accumulated 1,289 receiving yards, 276 rushing and 444 yards on kick return leading to 12 touchdowns.

Tofa Wilson is the second linebacker from Sin City to join the Bears. A first team all-state selection he led the state of Nevada in sacks his senior season. He was also named first team all-conference and the Southeast Defensive MVP.
He recorded 26 sacks over his junior and senior seasons of high school.
Wilson picked Northern Colorado over BYU, Weber State, University of Mary and Pacific University.

Already familiar with Coach McCaffery's offense, Zain Zincola joins the UNC football team. A threat all over the field he accumulated 1,289 receiving yards, 276 rushing and 444 yards on kick return leading to 12 touchdowns.
