Boise, ID. –The UNC Bears opened up the weekend series at Boise State Friday night as they took part in the first home opener in 40 years for the Boise State Broncos. Boise State was able to get their first win of the season and the new era in Boise by defeating UNC 4-0.
The starting pitcher for the Broncos, Travis Weston, went 7.0 innings and only allowed the Bears two hits.
Issac Bracken also went 7.0 innings for the Bears, throwing 105 pitches and only allowing three earned runs.
Lincoln Turner had half of the Bears hits for the game, going 2-4 in the game with a double. Jake Gitter and Matt Burkart added the other two hits for the Bears.
In the ninth to lead off, Jake Gitter hit a single with the Bears down 4-0 and needing to get runs on the board. Josh Glenn followed that by patiently waiting and getting the walk to put runners on first and second.
Billy Moreland was also walked and loaded the bases, but the Bears couldn't bring them home, allowing Boise State to win their first home game back in Boise.
Friday night was only the first of four games this weekend in Boise, and the Bears will have two more shots at a win tomorrow. The first game of the Saturday double-header will begin at 2 PM, with game two following shortly after the conclusion of that one.
