Bears Place Record 11 on Academic All-Big 12 Team

Northern Colorado wrestling continues to excel in the classroom
IRVING, TX – It was another banner year for Northern Colorado wrestling, as the team had 11 student-athletes selected to Academic All-Big 12 teams. UNC had eight student-athletes selected to the first team and three to the second team for the most honorees in a single season in program history.
Jimmy Fate(Business Administration), Josh Flanagan(Economics), Macoy Flanagan(Business Administration), Billy Higgins(Sport and Exercise Science), Jace Koelzer(Psychology), Jacob Seely(Sport and Exercise Science), Xavier Vasquez(Psychology) and Robert Winters Jr.(Sport and Exercise Science) earned All-Big 12, first team members.
Seely was one of four student-athletes in the conference to earn a 4.0 GPA.
The Bears had three earn spots on the All-Big 12, second team including Sethan Bogulski(Sport and Exercise Science), Sean Cannon(Economics) and Brody Lamb(Business Administration.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Student-Athletes must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Since joining the Big 12 in 2015, head coach Troy Nickerson has now had 42 Academic All-Big 12 selections. The Bears had nine Academic All-Big 12 honorees in 2019.
UNC is tied for third in the conference with 11 total members. Air Force and Northern Iowa each had 11 selections. North Dakota State led all programs with 14 total members.
In total for the conference, 80 student-athletes made the first team and 26 made the second team Academic All-Big 12.
Northern Colorado travels to Colorado Springs for the team's final dual of the season against Air Force on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.(MST).
