FARMINGTON, Utah – Riding its fifth Big Sky Tournament title, Northern Colorado Volleyball will finally get a chance to defend the title with the announcement of the regular-season schedule Monday.
"We are just excited to play outside competition at this point," said head coach Lyndsey Oates. "Our last competition was in the NCAA Tournament last December so we're excited to see where we've grown and how this group can come together.
"Having a conference-only schedule will be interesting. We like our draw regarding which teams we get to play at home. The top seeds from last year (No.'s 2, 3, 4 & 5) will all be on our home court."
In an effort to reduce travel and exposure to COVID-19, teams will play each other on back-to-back dates in the same location.
The Bears open the season at home in the Bank of Colorado Arena on January 24 and 25 against Montana State. UNC will also get home matches against Sacramento State, Weber State and Northern Arizona. All eyes will be on the matchup with the Wildcats, representing a rematch of the Big Sky Championship last fall.
Road matchups for the Bears include Eastern Washington, Portland State, Idaho State and Idaho.
Northern Colorado Athletics continues to work with state and local health departments to make the most informed decisions on fan attendance for the 2021 Spring Season. If Weld County remains in "red" on the Colorado COVID-19 dial, fans will not be allowed in attendance for the opening home series against Montana State (January 24 & 25). Final information regarding fan attendance at home matches will be given at a later date.
For those who already purchased season tickets, we will continue provide the most up-to-date information when changes occur and keeping you in the loop during this time will be our number one priority.
The Big Sky Championship is slated for March 31 – April 2 and will be hosted by the Bears here in Greeley.
