Opening Tip
Old North Central Conference (DII) rivals reunite in Greeley for the first time since 2014. Both UNC and Omaha have since moved on to Division I and look to rekindle the friendly grudge match. It'll be the first time the Mavericks have traveled to UNC since 2013.
UNC and UNO each kicked off their seasons against Big 12 opponents last week. While UNC's second-half comeback wasn't enough against Kansas (78-62), Omaha equally failed to prevail against Iowa State (69-43).
Sunday's contest represents the first of three consecutive home non-conference matchups before the Bears face Idaho State on Dec. 14. Denver and Abilene Christian will take their turns against Northern Colorado this week. Wyoming will also make the trek to Greeley to round out non-conference play on December 20.
UNC will be looking for a lift from sophomore forward Alisha Davis. The Aurora, Colorado native notched her eighth career double-double against Kansas with 18 points and 10 boards.
Scouting the Mavericks
First-year head coach Carrie Banks inherits a deep Omaha roster. All five starters and seven others return for 2020-21, including junior forward Mariah Murdie. The Meriden, Kansas native averaged 11 points and 6.0 rebounds a year ago and landed on the All-Summit League First Team this fall.
History against Omaha
Back in UNC's Division II era, this matchup represented a bitter rivalry for these former North Central Conference Foes. All-time, the Bears enjoy at 25-10 mark against the Mavericks, including a 16-2 record at home. However, UNC hasn't hosted UNO since December 2013.
Against the Conference
The Bears are also no strangers to the Summit League. UNC's matchup against Omaha represents the 230th all-time meeting against the conference. Northern Colorado will be looking to add to a diminished win column as the Bears are 87-142 against the Summit League.
On This Date
UNC holds a 10-4 all-time mark on November 29, including an impressive 4-0 clip at home. Back in 1994, the Bears rolled over Air Force, 72-52, in the first of two consecutive victories over the Falcons.
What's Ahead?
Northern Colorado remains at home in Greeley this week. The Bears host Denver on Tuesday, December 1, and will welcome Abilene Christian to the Bank of Colorado Arena on Friday, December 4.
